SANTO DOMINGO – The Secretary-General of the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), Zurab Pololikashvili, said that the Dominican Republic is the best country to invest in the sector and highlighted the support that banks have been providing directly to projects being developed in the country.
In addition, he announced that the first international investment forum is planned to be held in the Dominican Republic in March 2022.
“We are going to review agendas and organize a historic forum for the Americas. The Americas need investment and jobs, and there is no better place to invest than the Dominican Republic. That is what I tell everyone, the members, when they ask me. We are very excited to have such strong, professional, friendly, and interesting partners as the Dominican Republic,” said Pololikashvili, UNWTO Executive Director.

While participating virtually in the fifth edition of the “Tourism Investment Forum” of Asonahores, Zurab Pololikashvili said that they have considered making a guide explaining why investors should invest in the Dominican Republic.
“In March, I believe that if we put in all the effort, we can hold a historic forum in the Dominican Republic. We have the banks, we have the Ministry, we have the private sector, we have an excellent president who understands better than other presidents in the world the importance of tourism for the economy and for the country,” the UNWTO representative pointed out.
He emphasized that during his first term, in his various trips around the world, he never saw in any country the close relationship that exists between the private sector and the Dominican government.
“I believe the Dominican Republic is the only country in the world where banks are directly supporting tourism development in this way. It’s the only country in the world where banks produce reports on sustainability in tourism. That never happens anywhere else, and I want to tell my dear Samuel Pereyra and Banco Popular that we will adopt this project as a pilot program for other countries. We want to show them and explain how to attract the banking sector to the tourism sector, which needs financing and support,” he stated.
