SANTO DOMINGO - The world commemorates today, March 8, "International Women's Day," a date marked by various historical events of women and their struggle for gender equality and rights, both labor and social.

The history of this commemoration dates back to March 8, 1875, in the United States, where hundreds of female garment workers from a New York factory demonstrated, demanding equal pay with men and improved working conditions. During this demonstration, 120 women were killed by police, a tragedy that two years later proved pivotal in the creation of the first women's labor union in history.

In 1908, nearly 15,000 working women took to the streets of New York City under the banner of "Bread and Roses," protesting against endless workdays, inhumane conditions, and meager wages. Three years later came the event that would definitively shape the feminist movement: on March 25, 1911, the deadliest industrial disaster in New York City history occurred.
146 women died in a fire at the Triangle Shirtwaist factory due to building collapses, burns, and smoke inhalation. The deaths occurred because the factory owners sealed the building's exits. Clara Zetkin, at the Second International Conference of Socialist Women in Copenhagen in 1920, proposed, unanimously approved, commemorating International Women's Day in March with the goal of achieving women's suffrage. It was officially recognized in 1975 by the United Nations.

The Dominican real estate sector is a minefield of entrepreneurial women, to whom this media outlet pays tribute today for their efforts, dedication, and commitment to the noble cause of helping families and individuals achieve something as sacred as a home; and in some cases, a property that will surely help bring happiness to human beings.

The Challenge of Being a Woman
Women are special beings by nature, with the ability to simultaneously and excellently be mothers, friends, sisters, wives, daughters, businesswomen, entrepreneurs, and so on, a long list of skills and roles that only women have historically demonstrated the ability to perform successfully at the same time.
I believe that women only have the limits that we ourselves set with limiting beliefs, and I base this argument on the large number of women who have preceded us, throughout the years, and in different branches of science, humanity or history, who have left important legacies in the Dominican Republic and in the world.
Today I urge all women, and with special affection to all those in our real estate sector—our Agents and Real Estate Advisors—to strive for a fulfilling life by design. I invite you to believe you are worthy and perfectly capable of achieving everything you can dream of and desire for yourselves and your families. I invite you to take charge. I can speak from experience and testify that YES, IT IS POSSIBLE! The key is focus, discipline, and persistence, combined with that characteristic passion we women possess.
I know that in our sector, real estate agents face daily challenges such as insecurity, harassment, and hard work, but I also know that we meet many incredible people and that we can positively impact hundreds of lives, which is also reflected in our own lives. And no one better than we can develop our skills with such love for our clients in multiple roles such as real estate advisors, appraisers, marriage counselors, lawyers, decorators, stylists, nutritionists, coaches, psychologists, and the list goes on and on, hehehe. But we enjoy every moment, every role, to the fullest because we love what we do, and that's why we are and will continue to be the majority in our sector, guaranteeing success because we train ourselves constantly to be the best for our clients.
A big hug to all our women on this day. Remember that you can achieve anything you dream of. Let's keep changing the world.
