SANTO DOMINGO – Indoor entertainment venues in the Dominican Republic must comply with a set of requirements and regulations to operate, as established by the country's laws. Engineer Manuel Inoa, who is also a forensic technician, shared with El Inmobiliario a minimum list of the requirements they must meet, according to the regulations established in the national manuals:
Structure and design
It must have a structure designed according to regulations R-001 (earthquake) and R-004 (for the supervision and general inspection of works), have an updated structural evaluation signed by a registered engineer, have metal structures inspected by a specialized civil/mechanical engineer and not have overload due to sound equipment, lighting or other remodeling.
Documentation and licenses
It must have plans approved by the Ministry of Housing, Habitat and Buildings (MIVHED) or city council, a current building license, have registered technical supervision (director of works and collegiate supervisor, as well as a certificate of occupancy or revalidation of use.
Life safety and fire safety
It must have functioning and clearly marked fire extinguishers, an operational fire alarm system, functional emergency lighting, and unobstructed and clearly visible emergency exits. Additionally, the maximum occupancy must be respected according to the size of the premises, and staff must be trained in evacuation and first aid.
Evacuation and accessibility
The facilities must have a visible and up-to-date evacuation plan, evacuation routes clear of obstacles, accessibility for people with disabilities (ramps, restrooms) and coordination with firefighters and local authorities.
Periodic maintenance and inspection
You must plan a structural review at least every 5 years, have a certified electrical inspection, documented maintenance reports, and renewal of permits and licenses according to current regulations.
Professional responsibility and registration
Similarly, the centers must have registered and certified contractors and professionals (CODIA) and liability or structural insurance.
