Tourism Minister David Collado inaugurated the construction work on the tourist pier in the municipal district of Caleta, La Romana province, on Monday, with a projected investment of RD$30,773,790.
The new pier is part of the comprehensive interventions carried out by the Ministry of Tourism (Mitur) to strengthen the tourism development of La Romana and diversify its offerings, such as the Caleta boardwalk, a press release highlights.
The construction of the pier, which seeks to promote tourism and fishing in the area, consists of a structure located on the shore of Caleta beach, which will consist of a walkway three meters wide, with a length of 30.15 linear meters over the sea.
It will have at its southern end two walkways to both sides with a total length of 27 linear meters; in addition to five docks of 5.40 linear meters in length.
Collado stated that the modern pier will have an extraordinary impact on boosting tourism and fishing in the area.

“With the construction of this pier, we are addressing a long-standing and just demand of this municipal district and fulfilling our initiative to revitalize the waterfronts and stop living with our backs to the sea,” the official said.
He assured that once the pier is built it will have an immediate economic impact on the residents of the community.
According to the design, the structure will be finished in synthetic wood, and will also include lighting and a safety railing along the entire length of the dock.
It will include the construction of a breakwater to dissipate wave energy and thus reduce erosion of the area, protecting the structure, the beach and its surroundings.
The project is being managed by the Executive Committee for Infrastructure in Tourist Zones (CEIZTUR) of the Ministry of Tourism, with a cost of RD$30,773,790.
