Sustainable projects
By its very nature, the construction industry consumes many natural resources. In recent years, with increased environmental awareness, there has been growing pressure on construction companies to reduce their environmental impact.
Therefore, 2023 will be marked by a growing demand for sustainable projects. These involve construction using renewable and recyclable materials, reducing on-site waste, decreasing water and energy consumption, and protecting natural habitats during and after the construction phase, among other things.
By 2025, sustainable architecture aims to reduce CO2 emissions by up to 84 gigatons. Furthermore, the global market for sustainable building materials is estimated to grow to $425.4 billion by 2027.
Digital transformation
Until recently, the construction equipment industry had lagged behind in digital transformation. But this is beginning to change, as digitalization has become the top priority for CE (construction equipment) leaders after sustainability, and is therefore one of the key construction trends this year.
According to Salesforce , 76% of AEC (architecture, construction, and engineering) development professionals say their organization has accelerated its digital transformation. Digitization has enabled the optimization of operations, boosted productivity, and improved resource utilization.
Modular and prefabricated construction
Modular construction typically involves building at least 60-90% of a structure before transporting it to the site. Prefabrication, while technically a form of modular construction, occurs when certain structural components are assembled or manufactured off-site.
This type of construction isn't exactly new, as it was already being used in the first half of the 1900s. However, it will be a trend again in 2023. In fact, in 2020 the global modular construction market was valued at approximately $82.3 billion and is estimated to grow to $108.8 billion by 2025.
Smart cities are also expected to change the way the industry operates, and companies in this sector are expected to benefit from drone technology, especially given the labor shortage the industry has faced for years.
