SANTO DOMINGO.- As of November 19, hotel occupancy in the country's main tourist destinations stood at 72.9%, according to data from the Ministry of Tourism (Mitur), which states that Bayahibe, in La Romana, had the highest occupancy rate with 84.8%.
Bávaro-Punta Cana is the second location where hotels maintained the highest occupancy rate in the penultimate month of 2023, reaching 78.7% of lodging, according to data processed by the Tourism Intelligence System (SITUR).
According to statistics, hotels in Greater Santo Domingo had an occupancy rate of 67.3%, followed by Santiago de los Caballeros with 62.7%; Boca Chica-Juan Dolio had 56.7%; while hotel facilities in Samaná maintained an occupancy rate of 53%; Sosúa-Cabarete 52.6%; in Puerto Plata, hotel occupancy averaged 45.7% on the 19th of this month.
During the year
The figures from Mitur maintain that in January there was an average occupancy of 76.7% in the various facilities intended for the accommodation of visitors in the Dominican nation.
In the second month of 2023, the number of guests increased, reaching 80.5% occupancy. In March it reached 76.8%; in April 76.1%, and in May occupancy fell to 68.4%, according to figures on the website of the Ministry of Tourism of the Dominican Republic.
In the sixth month of the year, the figure increased, compared to the previous month, to 71.4% occupancy; in July it increased to 75.5%, falling in August to 69.8%; in September, the occupancy of Dominican hotels reached 57% of visitors, while last October it reached 60.8% occupancy.
