Road construction begins ; mobility survey to be conducted to improve traffic in Santo Domingo

They will conduct a mobility survey seeking to improve traffic in Santo Domingo

More than 7,000 households will be surveyed to further develop transportation strategies in the capital and its surrounding area.

SANTO DOMINGO - Starting in September 2025, the National Institute of Transit and Land Transportation (Intrant) will launch the update of the Household Mobility Surveys expanded to new areas of Greater Santo Domingo and surrounding municipalities, a key study that will define the future of transportation in the metropolitan area.

The initiative, framed within the project “Support for the Implementation of the Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan of Greater Santo Domingo (AIPMUS)”, is financed by the European Union and coordinated by the French Development Agency (AFD) .

A press release states that between September and December of this year, a team of properly identified will visit more than 7,000 homes in the National District, Santo Domingo East, North, and West, as well as in Los Alcarrizos, San Cristóbal, Pedro Brand, San Antonio de Guerra, La Caleta, and Boca Chica. The goal is to survey more than 50,000 people .

The study will gather information on how, when, and why people travel, including reasons for travel, frequency, means of transport, costs, transfers, accessibility, and walking times. All household members over the age of 10 will be interviewed.

“This information will be the basis for making decisions that improve people’s quality of life: from new routes and infrastructure improvements to safer, more inclusive and sustainable transport policies,” Intrant highlighted.

The institution is asking for the public's cooperation and announced that it will verify the identity of the pollsters and the questions asked on its official channels to ensure transparency and trust in the process.
