SAN CRISTÓBAL.- TRYP by Wyndham will be a four-star condo hotel and resort complex that will be developed in Casa Club, Coconut Paradise, Playa Palenque here, with an investment of 20 million dollars, projected to become a tourist reference in the South region.
Last weekend, President Luis Abinader led the groundbreaking ceremony for the project, which will be built on the beachfront and will consist of 44 hotel units in condominium mode, 36 residences, 4 bungalow suites and 7 villas.
The condo hotel is scheduled to open in March 2023 and was designed by architect Juan Sánchez of Sánchez & Sánchez, with interior designs by Mrs. Jimena Trujillo of SAIA Arquitectos.
Tourism Minister David Collado, who led the event alongside the president, explained that the project aligns with President Abinader's vision. After focusing on tourism recovery for two years and being recognized by the World Tourism Organization as the number one country in the world in 2020, ForwardKeys has now published its results again, and the Dominican Republic ranked number one in the world for flights, comparing 2022 with 2019.
He opined that tourism is the country's main industry and that it has become evident that when personal and partisan political interests are set aside and the interests of the country are put on the table, great results are obtained.
He added that this recovery of tourism in its entirety, as well as the 179,000 pre-pandemic jobs in the sector, have been possible thanks to the joint effort and to President Abinader who works tirelessly every day and is attentive to every detail of the Dominican Republic brand.
"Today we can say that when the president arrived there were 10,000 rooms open with an occupancy of 10% and today we have 83,000 hotel rooms open with an occupancy of 85%," Collado highlighted.
Those attending the event included the mayor of San Cristóbal, José Montas; the governor of San Cristóbal, Pura Casilla; the mayor of Nizao, Eliazar Guerrero; the director of Politur, Major General Minoru Matsunaga; and the mayor of Palenque, Angela Dipre.
Also present were Wyndham Resorts Senior Director of Development, Louis Alicea; Coconut and Maceo General Manager, Mariela Maceo; and Major League Baseball players Vladdy Guerrero Jr. and Pedro Strop.
The Minister of Tourism assured that the tourism industry has been revolutionized under President Abinader's administration and that even with the challenge of the country losing half a million tourists due to the international situation, this year it will end up receiving 7.2 million tourists, a record figure in the history of the sector.
A role model
For his part, the president of Maceo & Company, Marco Maceo, explained that his development has become a benchmark tourist real estate project in the area.
He explained that by the beginning of next year they will increase their capacity to 200 rooms with the alliance with Wyndham and will provide around 400 direct jobs upon completion of the project.
Similarly, Edward De Valle II, CEO of Grupo Valle and co-developer of Tryp Playa Palenque, congratulated the government for the great work done in the recovery of tourism.
"And it is because of all these efforts that national and foreign investors can now place their trust in my vision and that of my partners," De Valle II emphasized.
