Details offered for the first edition of the Dominican Republic Open Copa Cap Cana 2025

The tournament will distribute a prize pool of $250,000 among 28 singles players and 16 doubles pairs.

SANTO DOMINGO. – The Ministry of Tourism and the Cap Cana Destination City announced yesterday, Thursday, the details of the first edition of the Dominican Republic Open Copa Cana 2025, the largest professional tennis tournament organized in the country's history on the ATP Challenger circuit.

The ATP Challenger 175, which will run from March 10 to 16, will be the official event inaugurating the six tennis courts at Cap Cana, built for the occasion, and represents one of the most important tournaments to be held for the first time in the country and in Latin America, as a prelude to the Miami Open Masters 1000, one of the most prestigious tournaments in international tennis, according to a press release.

The document points out that the ATP Challenger 175 series is the most prestigious within the Challenger circuit because it is a format created by the ATP to allow players to earn points between two Masters 1000 tournaments. In the Dominican Republic, specifically, it is played between the Indian Wells and Miami Open.

"With this event, Cap Cana and the Ministry of Tourism reaffirm their commitment to working through public-private partnerships for the development of sports tourism in the Dominican Republic, as with other top-tier tournaments that have been held in recent years, attracting thousands of tourists and economic contributions to the country," the report emphasizes.

High-profile players

The tournament's debut at this ATP event has confirmed the participation of top-tier players, including Chilean Alejandro Tabilo, Frenchmen Alexandre Muller and Benjamin Bonzi, American Brandon Nakashima, Argentinians Tomás Martin Etcheverry and Mariano Navone, Dutchman Talloon Grieskspoor, Czech Republic's Jakub Mensik, Belgian David Goffin, and Great Britain's Cameron Norrie.

The details of the tournament were presented by the Minister of Tourism, David Collado, and
the Chairman of the Board of Directors of Cap Cana, Fernando Hazoury.

The tournament will feature 28 singles players and 16 doubles pairs. (EXTERNAL SOURCE).

In his remarks, Collado stated: “We continue to invest in sports tourism as a key platform to strengthen our international profile and diversify our offerings. This ATP 175 tournament in Cap Cana not only reaffirms that the Dominican Republic is much more than sun and sand, but also positions us as a destination capable of hosting major international events. We have embraced tennis and other sports because we know the positive impact they have on the economy, tourism, and the projection of our country brand to the world,” the official explained.

Hazoury, for his part, took the opportunity to highlight the importance of sports tourism for Cap Cana and applauded Collado's actions, who, since being mayor of the city, has promoted and supported tennis with a vision for the future, seeing these results today.

He said that Cap Cana Destination City is proud to welcome, along with the country, this very important event that not only attracts this type of tourism to the country, but also contributes to tourism in general, inviting players and their families to experience unique activities and diverse forms of recreation, while enjoying their sporting passion.

“We are very pleased that we will be receiving in our country and our destination city in particular a series of international players who have been placed among the world's top players and among the best of their nationalities for their great performance in this exciting sport.”.

“To all of you, and to you in particular, Mr. Minister, along with your wonderful team, thank you for supporting us in Cap Cana in developing this very important event for the country, in a paradisiacal location that allows everyone who plays and enjoys the matches to also take away an unparalleled experiential experience,” Hazoury concluded.

Like the American tournament, the Cap Cana Cup will be played on three indoor courts and practiced on three additional hard courts (Hard Laykold) to facilitate the athletes' adaptation, as these courts share the same characteristics as those used at the Miami Open. The tournament will distribute a prize purse of $250,000 among 28 singles players and 16 doubles pairs. The champions in both categories will earn 175 points toward the world ranking.

Tennis fans will have the opportunity to watch the matches in the main stadium, as well as on two Grandstand courts, with a total capacity of over 1,700 people. The matches will be broadcast locally on ESPN and Disney+, as well as on Tennis Channel in the United States, Europe, and India; on DAZN in Italy and New Zealand; on Arena Sport in Chechnya and Slovakia; and on BB Sport in Iceland and Russia.
