They break ground to begin the second phase of the border perimeter fence in Dajabón

In Dajabón, in the Northwest Line, the Ministers of the Presidency, José Ignacio Paliza , and of Defense, Lieutenant General Carlos Antonio Fernández Onofre (ERD), led this Friday the symbolic act of the first groundbreaking that marks the beginning of the construction of the second phase of the intelligent border perimeter fence , as part of the strategic plan of the Dominican Government to strengthen national security and guarantee greater control of the territory .

This new phase involves the construction of 13 kilometers of fencing, from the point known as La Sal (pyramid 21) to El Salto de la Paloma (pyramid 39), in the community of Capotillo , Dajabón province. The design of this section includes the installation of eight watchtowers, access gates, bridges, and a 13-foot-high structure composed of a reinforced concrete base, a five-foot concrete wall, six feet of chain-link fencing, and a double trench one foot deep, all aimed at increasing the effectiveness of border control , according to a press release from the Presidency.

Paliza emphasized that this project reflects comprehensive vision for more effectively combating human trafficking, drug trafficking, smuggling, and cattle rustling— activities that have historically plagued this border region. “The perimeter fence is not only a security infrastructure, but also a symbol of sovereignty, institutional strength, and commitment to protecting the national territory. There is no better wall than the integrity of the Dominican people, their transparency, and their love for their land,” he stated.

For his part, the Minister of Defense reaffirmed that this second phase of the fence is part of a phased process that prioritizes the most vulnerable and strategic sections of the border, in accordance with the guidelines set by the President of the Republic, Luis Abinader , to guarantee peace, order and development in the border communities.

The event was attended by the provincial governor, Severina Gil ; the senator, Manuel Rodríguez ; the mayor, Santiago Riverón Arias ; the president of the Presidential Commission for Support to Provincial Development, Ángel de la Cruz Hernández , civil and military authorities of the region, as well as members of the Observatory of Migration Policies , headed by its president, Mr. Miguel Franjul , among other special guests.
