The current event is taking place in Pedernales.
SANTO DOMINGO.- The National Office for Seismic Evaluation and Vulnerability of Infrastructure and Buildings (Onesvie) reported that they are making progress in the purpose of determining the resilience of public buildings, with the implementation of a comprehensive first-level evaluation process, through the "dynamic digital campaign of services" that the state entity is carrying out in each of the provinces of the Dominican Republic.
The initiative seeks to identify, as quickly as possible, seismic vulnerability, and issue reports on the observations, recommendations, characteristics, and findings found in each of the evaluations.
A press release states that the results will allow authorities to initiate a program of structural reinforcements in the evaluated buildings, thereby ensuring the safety of the citizens who frequent them.
The surveys in Pedernales will involve the active participation of specialized technicians from the Southern delegation of the government entity, who will be responsible for evaluating each of the identified buildings and issuing the report with the results.

For its part, the provincial government of Pedernales will be in charge of coordinating the schedule of visits, providing facilities so that the technicians can carry out the evaluations without difficulty, and motivating officials to understand the importance of having resilient and safe buildings.
"The joint effort reflects the commitment of local authorities and Onesvie to ensure that buildings can withstand a significant earthquake in the area," the press release states.
Among the buildings to be evaluated in this first stage of the plan are: the buildings that house the provincial government, the National Institute of Hydraulic Resources (INDRI), the Price Stabilization Institute (INESPRE), the Municipal Council, the Pedernales Cultural Club, Government Offices and the National Police (PN) building.
