SANTO DOMINGO - The team made up of José Mateo, Johan Mateo and Osiris de León was crowned champion of the top category in the first edition of the Poeta Cup that was held at the Isabel Villas in this city.
The first edition of the tournament was held in honor of José Jáquez "El Poeta", a prominent journalist, humorist, writer and golf .
The competition featured more than 50 players and was used to inaugurate a new field lighting system night play.
"This is the first edition , but it won't be the last. This is just the beginning," said Valerie Jáquez , daughter of the honoree and organizer of the tournament .
In category A the champions were José Mateo, Johan Mateo, and Osiris de León and the runners-up were Edward Mota, Felipe Elías and Cristian Cuevas.
In category A B, Carlos Naut, Kelvin Martínez, and Jeremi Mota triumphed, and the runners-up were Edwin Pichardo, Carlos Rosario, and Daniel Cuevas; while in category B, Juan Matos, José Peña, and José Veras were crowned champions, and Darío Pimentel, Claudio Guzmán, and Oscar Contreras were runners-up.
The competition was played in a scramble format with teams of three players , a modality that allows a fluid and competitive pace of play between golfers of different levels.
