SANTO DOMINGO.- Five real estate agencies joined yesterday in the commemoration of the “International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women”, a date chosen in memory of the Mirabal sisters, who were brutally murdered by dictator Rafael Leonidas Trujillo, 61 years ago.
“Today we want to encourage continued coordination of policies at the national and global levels for its eradication so that we can have a future free of violence against women,” Remax Metropolitana posted on its Instagram social network.
Of a total of 20 agencies whose Instagram accounts we consulted yesterday, only five took the date into account, despite the fact that it is an event that marked the democratic history of the Dominican Republic, due to the bloody event that ended the lives of three activists who were fighting for the end of the Trujillo tyranny and in whose event the United Nations (UN) decreed November 25 as the Day of the Elimination of Violence worldwide.
Remax was joined by Inmobiliaria Grupal, who posted a reminder of the date, as well as Kwcapital, Múdate, and Mr Home. The others were conspicuously absent. Some, however, such as Urban Group, Cabin Brokers, BC Real Estate, and ApartamentosRD, posted content related to Thanksgiving, which is celebrated in the United States.
“Today is the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, established by the United Nations to raise awareness about the need to eradicate one of the most widespread, persistent, and devastating human rights violations in the world. Let's be part of the change and the solution,” Kwcapitalrd posted.
“Today, November 25th, is the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, with the aim of raising awareness about violence against women and girls worldwide. Did you know that? The date of this International Day was chosen to honor the memory of the Mirabal sisters, three political activists from the Dominican Republic who were brutally murdered in 1960 on the orders of Dominican dictator Rafael Trujillo,” Mr. Home posted.
He pointed out that violence against women is an obstacle to building inclusive and sustainable societies. It is impossible for a society to flourish if half the population lives in fear of being attacked, he said.
Múdate posted: “Don’t feel brave when you go out on the street, feel free. If you need help, seek it. A day like today is commemorated annually to denounce the violence perpetrated against women worldwide and to demand policies in all countries for its eradication.”.
The other agencies consulted were Plusval Dominicana, Élite House, Time Homes, Houselink, Real Broker, Best House Realty, Porta Propies, Hogarium, Geraldino Realty, Decanaan and Premium Real Estate.
