SANTO DOMINGO. The Ministry of Tourism (MITUR) announced that to guarantee and protect the safety of local and foreign tourists during the Easter holiday, which concludes on Sunday, April 20, it has implemented several measures, including a ban on the sale and street vending of alcoholic beverages, the use of watercraft, motor vehicles and motorcycles, and a ban on parties and events on beaches and resorts throughout the country.
The provision is contained in the Resolution on the «Special Regulations during the Holy Week 2025 period, applicable to tourist establishments, including hotels, restaurants, located in tourist areas, activity operators and areas that make up the beaches and resorts of the Dominican Republic.
The Tourism Cabinet ordinance reiterates the prohibition on the use of Jet Skis/Wave Runners and Banana Boats, as well as the use of motorcycles, ATVs, and other motor vehicles on the country's beaches. It also prohibits the erection of tents and similar structures on the country's beaches.
The MITUR order reiterates the prohibition of parties and activities on beaches and resorts, while also requiring hotels that organize events to have a security plan to ensure order is maintained.
Furthermore, it reiterates the ban on the sale and street vending of alcoholic beverages on the country's beaches and in any recreational activity of the excursion type, while in complementary activities such as in water parks or theme parks, among others, it will be allowed in a controlled manner during the day and will be prohibited from 6:00 pm to 6:00 am during the days from Monday the 14th to Sunday the 20th of this same month.
Furthermore, the closure of all beaches and resorts in the country is ordered, during the period of validity of this Resolution, from 6:00 pm each day until 6:00 am the following day.
Similarly, this provision reiterates that "hotels and hotel complexes must continue to comply with the safety and hygiene conditions established in Regulation 2115 on the classification and standards of hotel establishments, dated July 16, 1984, modified by Decree No. 818-13 that approves the regulations for the operation of hotel establishments dated August 20, 2003.".
"Likewise, restaurants must continue to comply with the safety and hygiene conditions set out in Regulation 2116, on the classification and standards of restaurants, dated July 16, 1984.".
Section Seventeen of this Resolution requests the Tourist Police (POLITUR) to ensure its faithful compliance. It also requests the Ministry of Defense, the Dominican Republic Navy, the National Police, Civil Defense, the Emergency Operations Center (COE), and any other Dominican State institution to collaborate in achieving the aforementioned objectives.
