SANTO DOMINGO. – The Ministry of Public Works and Communications (MOPC) reported that more than road and protection infrastructure projects distributed across 15 provinces of the national territory, aimed at the rehabilitation, construction and reconstruction of road infrastructure affected by Tropical Storm Melissa .
The agency specified that the work will begin next January 2026 , prioritizing actions that will restore safe traffic flow and protect strategic infrastructure that will benefit communities located in various provinces.
The entity cites the following districts in a press release: Santo Domingo, San Cristóbal, San José de Ocoa, San Pedro de Macorís, Monte Plata, San Juan, Azua, Peravia, Barahona, La Romana, Independencia, La Vega, Monseñor Nouel, Pedernales and the National District.
Main types of interventions awarded
• Construction and reconstruction of post-tensioned concrete bridges .
• Correction of critical points on main roads and local roads .
• Construction of box culverts stormwater drainage
• Rehabilitation of road sections affected by erosion and landslides.
These awards represent a technical response resilience -oriented solutions , which strengthen infrastructure and reduce vulnerability to future events, explains the press release.
The Ministry of Public Works maintains that it will keep the public informed about the progress of these works and that it will continue to strengthen the country's road infrastructure fundamental pillar of economic development and safety.
