In general, the ParquéateRD Trust contemplates the construction of 16 parking buildings in Greater Santo Domingo, four in Santiago and one in San Cristóbal.
SANTO DOMINGO - The first shovel was struck on January 6, 2022, for the construction of 526 parking spaces in the Centro de los Héroes, seeking to alleviate one of the major crises affecting this area of the Dominican capital: the shortage of parking spaces in relation to the numerous offices concentrated there, from where various government agencies, as well as the National Congress, operate.
President Luis Abinader inaugurated the groundbreaking ceremony for "Centro de los Héroes I," the seven-story building project. The facility will be constructed on a 3,525-square-meter site at an approximate cost of $480 million and is part of the National Public Parking Construction Plan, implemented by the Ministry of Public Works through the Parquéate-RD Trust.
The area includes a second parking garage near the Supreme Court of Justice, which will be called "Center of Heroes II" and whose bidding process will begin in the coming weeks and will have a capacity for 300 parking spaces, government representatives explained.
Centro de los Héroes I will feature a multipurpose area on the seventh floor, 24-hour security, internal cameras connected to the Parquéate-RD Management and Control Center and the 9-1-1 System, restrooms for women, men, and people with reduced mobility, elevators, and stairs. It will also have an emergency power generator, solar panels, a car wash, basic mechanical services, and parking sensor monitoring.
The building, which will be located on the site of the current parking lot of the National Institute of Hydraulic Resources (INDRHI), will have six parking spaces for electric vehicles, 15 spaces for motorcycles, and eight spaces for people with disabilities. It could generate RD$1,800,000 per month and is expected to be completed in a year and a half.

Minister of Public Works Deligne Ascensión reported that to make the project economically sustainable, offices, event areas and a gymnasium will be provided.
In general, the Parquéate-RD Trust contemplates the construction of 16 parking buildings in Greater Santo Domingo, four in Santiago and one in San Cristóbal.
The one that started yesterday is the second to begin in the capital. In the Colonial Zone, the Atarazana Parking Garage operates, which generates around RD$1 million in revenue per month.
The president was also accompanied by Eduardo Estrella, president of the Senate; Alfredo Pacheco, president of the Chamber of Deputies; the governor of Santo Domingo, Altagracia Julia Drullard; the executive director of INDRHI, Olmedo Caba Romano; and the director of ParqueaTRD, José Cedeño, among other officials.
