These are the 7 big trends for decorating floors in 2025

When it comes to interiors, flooring is (literally) the foundation of everything. Keeping up with the latest trends can give your home that coveted designer touch. A well-chosen floor not only grounds the space but also adds personality and can make your rooms appear larger and brighter.

2025 promises to be an exciting year full of innovative, practical, and visually stunning flooring ideas. Here are the seven key trends that will define style this year.

1- Warm woods

Goodbye to gray floors: 2025 is all about warm woods with honey tones that bring comfort and warmth to both traditional and modern spaces. Think warm oaks, subtle grain, and organic, understated matte finishes.

“Bleached oak remains a staple, but we’re seeing a resurgence of medium browns and rich earthy tones,” explains Ian Tomlinson, managing director of Chaunceys Timber Flooring. “Homeowners want inviting interiors that feel connected to nature. Warm woods help achieve this ambiance, and their timeless appeal reflects a return to classic, enduring designs.”

2- Botanical and floral designs

Make a statement with your feet in prints that are true works of art. We'll see striking botanical prints, oversized floral motifs, and playful, fresh, and contemporary color combinations.

“Botanical designs have been a constant in interiors, with floral prints contrasting beautifully with white, modern spaces,” says Jodie Hatton, design manager at the historic carpet firm Brintons. “When you mention a floral rug, many people think of dated 1970s styles, but florals don’t have to be cheesy. They can be dark and dramatic or carefully crafted. ‘Floral’ is an incredibly diverse design term.”

3- Parquet flooring with a contemporary touch

Parquet flooring remains a timeless choice thanks to its traditional and distinctive design. It adds visual interest and sophistication to any space, adapting to both contemporary and historic properties.

“We’re noticing an exciting shift towards eclectic geometric patterns and large-format designs,” Ian notes. “ Styles like herringbone, chevron, and Versailles bring sophistication and visual depth. We’re also creating custom patterns that make a unique statement in the home.”

4- Sustainable and recycled materials

Eco-conscious living is also extending to flooring, with a growing demand for sustainable options. Cork, bamboo, and engineered wood flooring (artificial wood created by combining pieces of wood veneer with a binding agent) are leading this trend, offering beautiful finishes with a sustainable touch.

“Sustainably engineered wood flooring perfectly balances durability with environmental responsibility,” Ian points out. “Not only does it offer excellent resistance to the natural expansion and contraction caused by heat and humidity, but it’s also compatible with underfloor heating, which is becoming increasingly popular in homes.”.

Incorporating sustainable products into your home often means looking beyond aesthetics. You'll score extra points if you choose suppliers who prioritize low-waste production and ethical sourcing.

“Beyond the final product, it’s important to consider key factors, such as where the materials come from, the carbon footprint of the manufacturing process, and whether the company’s values align with its commitment to sustainability,” explains David Mudd, co-founder of Knot & Grain. “It’s worth remembering that what you don’t see is just as important as what you do see.”.

5- Cut and loop carpets

Cut-and-loop rugs are booming. Known for their unique mix of varying pile heights and intricate patterns, these rugs are redefining the boundaries of modern interior design. Interior designers are increasingly using them to enhance high-end projects, adding depth, interest, and dimension to luxurious spaces.

“We’ve seen a significant increase in demand for textured cut-and-loop rug designs,” says Jodie. “The varying textures and pile heights in the rugs create a dynamic interplay of light and shadow, generating a sense of depth and aesthetic impact.”

6- Extra wide and extra long boards

Scale is also a major flooring trend for 2025. Seeking to create more spacious and luxurious interiors, extra-wide and long planks are gaining prominence. These not only make rooms appear larger but also allow the beauty of the wood to fully shine, achieving a sleek and seamless look by reducing the number of seams.

“Larger planks work beautifully in open-plan spaces, where they help unify the area, but they’re also a great choice for making small rooms feel larger, adding depth and eliminating visual clutter,” explains Ian. “By choosing this type of flooring, homeowners can enjoy a sophisticated interior that elevates the overall style.”

7- The appeal of LVTs

The star flooring for 2025? LVT, luxury vinyl tiles. This affordable option mimics high-end materials like marble and terrazzo, at more accessible prices. "Laminate and luxury vinyl tiles remain popular flooring choices, especially in designs that replicate the warmth and texture of natural wood," notes Johanna Constantinou, interior trends expert at Tapi.

Durable and easy to maintain, LVT flooring is perfect for busy homes and comes in a variety of trendy finishes (and colors) that look surprisingly luxurious. It's ideal for children's rooms, utility areas, and spaces where you want to add a touch of personality.

"LVTs are also a great choice for rooms with high humidity, such as kitchens or bathrooms, as they don't have the same risk of warping as more natural materials," adds Liam Cleverdon, flooring expert at Flooring King.
