SANTO DOMINGO. -The Office for the Reorganization of Transportation (OPRET) announced yesterday, Friday, August 8, that tomorrow, Sunday, President Luis Abinader will lead the official launch of the six-car trains for the Santo Domingo Metro and the inauguration of the new pedestrian interconnection tunnel on lines L1-L2.
The entity highlighted that the incorporation of six-car trains , initially on Line 1, starting Monday, August 11 , will allow for an increase in the number of users, which will impact the reduction of queues.
He explains that the opening of the interconnection tunnel, located at the Juan Pablo Duarte station, will improve the passenger experience.
Free service
Opret announced that, as part of the event, the Santo Domingo Metro and Cable Car will be free on Sunday , "allowing citizens to experience this important advance in capacity, efficiency and comfort of the transit ," the agency said in a press release.
Partial interruption
Likewise, Opret explained that, during the development of the protocolary act headed by the President of the Republic, service on lines 1 and 2 of the Metro could be partially interrupted between 2:30 and 3:30 in the afternoon for logistical and security reasons.
"OPRET appreciates the public's understanding and reiterates its commitment to the continuous strengthening of the transportation system , for the benefit of all users," the statement reads.
