SANTO DOMINGO. - From 8:00 pm on Saturday the 4th until 6:00 am on Monday the 6th, the Santo Domingo boardwalk and part of the Port Avenue will remain closed, according to information provided by the Ministry of Culture.
The agency reported that the road closures are to facilitate the preparation work for the 2023 National Carnival Parade, which will take place next Sunday, March 5, starting at 2:00 p.m.
The section that will remain closed, the government agency said in a statement, is the one between the floating bridge and Abraham Lincoln Avenue, and during the period it will remain closed only pedestrian access will be allowed.
The parade organizers suggest that citizens use alternative routes, such as Bolívar, Independencia, México, Benito González and Mella avenues, to facilitate mobility during the event, which registers a massive attendance of nationals and foreigners every year.
This provision of the Ministry of Culture has the support of the National Institute of Transit and Land Transportation (Intrant), the General Directorate of Transit and Land Transportation Safety (Digesett), and the Mayor's Office of the National District, the press document states.
Regarding security measures during the parade, a deployment of approximately 850 personnel will be in place, including members of the National Police, Municipal Police, military personnel and agents of the Digesett; units of the 911 Emergency and Security System, the Fire Department, the Dominican Red Cross, the Directorate of Out-of-Hospital Emergency Services, as well as rescuers, Civil Defense volunteers and private security agents.
A Security Command Post (PM) and the presence of first responders have been established in the Ministry of Culture building, from where any incidents that may occur during the event will be addressed.
These actions aim to make the development of the carnival route more viable, which this year has as its kings the folklorist and cultural manager Rafael Almánzar and the singer Diomary la Mala.
