Miguel Fluxá, president of the Iberostar Group, the Spanish chain that will operate the first hotel to open its doors in Cabo Rojo-Pedernales, was impressed by the beauty of the area, the magnitude of the tourism project that will be developed there, and highlighted the great vision of the President of the Republic, Luis Abinader, as the driving force behind this new destination.
Last Saturday, the CEO visited the Cabo Rojo-Pedernales area, where the first hotels are being built, accompanied by the executive director of the General Directorate of Public-Private Partnerships (DGAPP), Sigmund Freund, who showed him the progress of the works and the construction of the first buildings of the hotel that the hotel chain will operate.
“This is an impressive project that only a president like the one you have now could accomplish—a strong, courageous, and honest man. And for me, I always say that there are two presidents in your country whom I have immense respect for. It's not that I don't like the others, but Balaguer was truly a man who inspired confidence in many investors. We invested here, firstly because of the confidence Balaguer instilled in us, and now, as we live in an era of openness and forward-thinking with Luis Abinader, we continue to be happy to be here. We will continue to do things, and this is the best place. The best thing we can do as a company is to be in Pedernales, which is a unique place,” Fluxá stated in a few brief and heartfelt words.
He added that being in Pedernales reflects the affection they, as investors, have for the country. “We came to the country 32 years ago to buy our first plots of land, and since then we have had a strong affinity with the Dominican people.”.
He noted that the Dominican people are good, hardworking, and radiate joy, which is why he said they feel very good in the country "and whenever we can collaborate with the authorities, collaborate with worthwhile projects, we will be here.".

The top executive of Iberostar highlighted the chain's commitment to sustainability, stating that Cabo Rojo “is impressive. I knew that Dominicans, who know their land well, would choose the best place, and this place is truly fantastic because you want to protect nature. Our company believes in sustainability; that is the banner of our group. We have representatives, my daughter Gloria and my daughter Sabina, who fight to ensure that everything sustainable is handled well.”.

Distinguished Visitor
Sigmund Freund, the executive director of DGAPP, the entity responsible for the Cabo Rojo Tourism Development project, emphasized the importance of the visit by the CEO of the Iberostar Group, Miguel Fluxá, which he described as historic because he is an iconic figure in world tourism.
He highlighted as a highly valuable action the fact that this world-renowned hotel chain is participating in the project as the one that will operate the first hotel, and that its president or CEO has dedicated some of his busy time to visit Cabo Rojo.
“We are very happy to have received you here, Don Miguel. Cabo Rojo, I know, will be your new home; it will be a pioneer, as it has been on other occasions, in this vision that President Luis Abinader has of developing a new destination and also having an economic impact on an entire region.”.
During the visit, Iberostar President Miguel Fluxá was accompanied by Iberostar Hotel & Resort CEO Phil McAveety; Group Resources Director Fernando García; Americas Operations Director Rodrigo Silveira; and Dominican Republic O&I Director Alberto Martínez.
Accompanying the executive director of the DGAPP, Sigmund Freund, were the technical sub-director, Eliardo Cairo, and the technical director of the Pro-Pedernales Trust Executive Unit, José Rafael Miguel.
