This network has helped to expand the bank's coverage in areas without physical branches, allowing it to offer financial services more efficiently and accessibly.
In 2024, more than 5.6 million transactions were recorded on the Popular Sub-Agent network, demonstrating growth in transaction volume, with operations carried out through this channel now representing 15.2% of all in-person transactions at Banco Popular.
In addition, during this period, more than 300,000 customers carried out transactions, and of these, 62% visited this channel more than once.
Pharmacies and grocery and food stores lead the way
The CEO of Banco Popular, Mr. Christopher Paniagua, praised the impact of the Popular Sub-agent network as a key pillar for financial inclusion.
“We have strengthened our mission to promote financial inclusion for broad segments of the population, thereby creating a horizon of stability and new opportunities, all within a sustainable vision,” said Mr. Paniagua.
The preferred transactions by users of Popular Sub-Agents correspond to deposits and withdrawals with more than 78% of the operations.
Meanwhile, the remaining transactions are distributed as follows: payment of services (15.1%), mobile phone top-ups (4.5%), and credit card payments (0.4%).
Regarding the type of business with the highest participation within the Popular Sub-agent network, pharmacies, in particular, account for 36% of sub-agent points, followed by corner stores with 15% and supermarkets with 10%.
This behavior demonstrates not only their strategic location, but also the trust users place in these establishments as effective channels for managing banking operations, especially deposits and withdrawals.
