SANTO DOMINGO.- The Dominican Republic continues to surpass its own record with the arrival of visitors, registering 7,781,690 people in the first eight months of this year.
This was announced on Wednesday by the Minister of Tourism, David Collado, in his traditional monthly press conference, where the figures on the behavior of the country's tourism industry are presented.
He reported that in August alone the country received 812,949 visitors, representing an increase of 45% compared to 2019; 14% compared to 2022 and 2% compared to last year.
He detailed that of those 812,949 visitors, 675,149 arrived by air and 137,753 by sea.
Collado reported that in the first eight months of this year the country received 5,961,488 tourists by air, which represents an increase of 51% in relation to 2019; 49% compared to 2022 and 8% compared to last year.
During that same period, from January to August, the country received 1,820,020 cruise ship passengers, an increase of 147% compared to 2019; 142% compared to 2022 and 19% compared to last year, the official indicated.
"And that's how we achieved the impressive number of 7,781,690 visitors in the first eight months of this year. Something to celebrate," Collado emphasized.
He said that figure represents a 44% increase compared to the same period in 2019; 38% compared to 2022 and 10% compared to last year.
