The grounds of the Dominican National Palace now officially have property titles

The process to formalize the ownership of the land where the Government House stands began on August 13, 2021, seven decades after the construction of the presidential mansion.

SANTO DOMINGO.- Three property titles with a territorial dimension covering 68,130.32 square meters were accredited to the Dominican State this morning, as the legitimate owner, after 75 years of operating without official documents.

“Nothing prevented a process like this from being halted, except the lack of importance shown by those who had been in government for 75 years. There was nothing that would have created an obstacle for the Dominican government to have these lands properly organized,” said the Minister of the Presidency, José Ignacio Paliza, upon receiving the certifications.

The documents were delivered by the general director of the State Land Titling Technical Unit (Utect), Mérido Torres, who explained that the process took a year and had several stages: demarcation, sanitation and registration.

He said that during this time “no one came forward to claim ownership of it and therefore the sentence was obtained which today makes it possible to obtain the certificates.”.

Furthermore, he pointed out that in order to transfer the land to the State they had to wait for the corresponding period of appeal that any person with an interest in proving ownership of the land might have.

“We have certifications that no one appeared before the corresponding court to request an appeal,” he reiterated.

Regarding the descendants of the Lluberes Saviñón family, whose ancestor they claim donated the land to build the Santo Tomás de Aquino University, Torres stated that they could not present proof of ownership.

He explained that it was two processes through demarcation and regularization managed before the Real Estate Registry of the Council of the Judiciary and in both cases the State obtained judgments in favor of the Land Court of Original Jurisdiction of the National District and there was no objection from any party.

Two of the documents, number 0100360118 is for 37,342.35 mts, and 0100361555, for 25,265.35 square meters, corresponding to the land of the Government house, and 0100360116 for 5,522.32 mts, to those of the DNI building .

The National Palace was inaugurated on August 16, 1947, during the dictatorship of Rafael Leónidas Trujillo. The process to formalize ownership of the land where the Government House stands began on August 13, 2021, seven decades after the construction of the presidential mansion.
