SANTO DOMINGO - Flights at Las Américas International Airport to US destinations such as New York, New Jersey, Atlanta, Miami, Florida, Boston, Massachusetts, Orlando, Florida, Fort Lauderdale, Philadelphia and San Juan, Puerto Rico, are departing completely full of travelers, after the conclusion of the Christmas holidays in the country.
In the early hours of Wednesday, a considerable flow of travelers was observed queuing for the pre-check of their documents and luggage in front of the airline counters, on the second level of the airport terminal.
According to preliminary data provided by airport authorities to the newspaper Listín Diario, more than 100 round-trip flights had been scheduled from the Las Américas terminal to various destinations.
However, the most significant volume of operations is carried out at this terminal to cities in the United States, where thousands of Creoles reside.
There is also an increase in the number of passengers destined for European countries, such as Spain, France, the Netherlands, Italy, and others.
Also noteworthy is the increase in the flow of passengers departing from the airport terminal to countries in Central America, South America and the Caribbean Islands.
Visits
It is estimated that more than 600,000 domestic and foreign passengers traveled to the Dominican Republic during the Christmas period through the Americas, mainly from New York, Spain, Italy, Venezuela, Washington, New Jersey, Boston, and Massachusetts.
Also from San Juan, Puerto Rico, Panama, Havana, Cuba, Curacao, Saint Martin, Aruba, Jamaica, Paris, France, the Netherlands, Bogota, Colombia, Caracas, Venezuela and other destinations.
Meanwhile, airlines operating regular flights from the country to cities in the United States are departing with an occupancy rate of 100% to 99% following the return of thousands of Dominican travelers.
Upon their return abroad, travelers have had to leave some items at the airport due to excess baggage.
Among the products and items that the Creoles take abroad are coffee, sweet pastries, Dominican rum, pigeon peas, sweet potato bread, coconut dessert and arepas, cassava bread and sausages, paintings and ceramic cups and bowls among other items.
