SANTO DOMINGO. – The Minister of Housing, Habitat and Buildings (Mivhed), Carlos Bonilla , made a supervisory visit to the construction of the Las Parras Correctional Rehabilitation Center (CCR) , located in the municipality of San Antonio de Guerra.
The first stage of this project, which will be delivered in August , is 85% complete , housing more than 2,400 inmates , reducing overcrowding in the prison system , the entity highlights in a press release.
During the tour, the official visited the maximum security and reflection buildings, with the capacity to house 28 inmates in each facility.
Similarly, he received explanations from the contractors about the work done on the chambers of the inlet channel , which were fractured because they were built on land without sufficient fill.
Bonilla stressed that he must ensure that "everything that has been done and everything that will be done is in accordance with construction standards, so that when it is operational we have the responsibility to ensure that it is well built," he said.
The first stage of the Las Parras CCR includes the construction of educational classrooms , a building intended for a sewing workshop and another for children's visits, as well as the installation of perimeter fences both in the quadrants and in special cells.
Work is also underway on the construction of a cistern with a pumping station, equipment, and electrical connection for its power supply.
The project also includes the construction of security towers , access roads, parking areas, and the installation of a surveillance camera electrical, plumbing, and potable water systems
Other interventions include the construction of the alternate access for quadrants A1 and A2, the completion of the main access road, the installation of locks, the completion of dividing fences and enclosures, and the construction of screen chambers and sand traps, both for the pumping station and for the wastewater treatment plant.
The purpose of the Las Parras CCR is to provide inmates with a dignified, safe and humane where they can reintegrate into Dominican society.
