The first commercial and direct flight between the Dominican Republic and Guatemala will take place on September 28th, through the new airline Arajet.
The announcement was made at the Guatemalan government house, where the country's president, Alejandro Guammattei, met with the executive president of the Dominican airline, Víctor Pacheco, and there they announced that initially the route will be operating twice a week, on Wednesdays and Sundays, with a view to increasing to a third.
“We are very excited to be able to land in Guatemala, and very honored to be received by President Giammattei, who, along with his team, has been key to making the direct connection between our countries a reality and allowing millions of Dominicans and foreigners to enjoy the cultural and natural richness that Guatemala has to offer,” said Pacheco during the meeting at the Guatemalan government house.
Furthermore, he added that millions of Guatemalans will be able to travel for the first time on direct, nonstop flights of less than three hours to the Dominican Republic at low prices. Pacheco reported that Guatemala City is currently Arajet's fourth best-selling destination, very close to San Salvador and behind Mexico City and Lima.
The new Dominican airline will have its first flight between Santo Domingo and Guatemala City, with its new Boeing 737 Max 8 planes, on September 28, departing at 8:00 a.m. from Las Américas International Airport and arriving at 9:15 a.m. (two hours earlier than in the Dominican Republic) at La Aurora International Airport in the Guatemalan capital.
