The Dominican Republic strengthens ties to ensure greater air connectivity and increase visits from Colombian tourists to the country

SANTO DOMINGO. -The Dominican Republic achieved important negotiation closures at the Anato trade fair, which took place in Colombia for three days, to guarantee more arrivals of Colombian tourists and from all over Latin America.

During the ANATO 2025 Fair, the Dominican Republic delegation, headed by Minister David Collado, carried out an intense work agenda, which included 25 negotiation meetings with tour operators, airlines, travel agencies, marketing companies, international media, among others, with the aim of strengthening the flow of tourists to Quisqueya.

Thanks to these meetings, the Ministry of Tourism continues to work hard towards the goal of exceeding 375,000 Colombian tourists by the end of this year.

Some of those agreements were with the main airlines that cover the Colombia-Dominican Republic route, including Avianca, Copa and Wingo.

The 25 meetings with different companies in the industry will guarantee the mobilization of more than 30% of the total passengers entering the Dominican Republic, a direct result of this management with cooperation agreements.

Furthermore, through negotiations with airlines, the continuity of air connectivity between Colombia and the Dominican Republic was ensured.

The event also served as a crucial platform to strengthen the relationship between the Dominican Republic and the Colombian market, which has become the third largest source of tourists to the destination.

With the signing of these agreements, the aim is not only to increase the arrival of travelers, but also to diversify the offer and strengthen connectivity, facilitating access to different tourist destinations in the country.

Anato also served as a platform to showcase the Miches destination, which will have more than 3,000 hotel rooms in operation by the end of 2025. Additionally, Santo Domingo was promoted, highlighting its wide range of hotel, culinary, and cultural offerings.

Similarly, within the framework of Anato, the OTA Despegar, the most important online travel agency in Latin America that moves half a million passengers to the Dominican Republic, recognized the country as the destination with the greatest growth in passengers in 2024.

The Dominican Republic received 3,633 flights from Colombia. Of these, 32% operated on the El Dorado-Punta Cana route, 27% on the El Dorado-SDQ route, and 16% on the Medellín-Punta Cana route.

"By participating in the Anato Showcase, we reaffirm our position as the number one and preferred destination in the Caribbean for Colombians and the rest of Latin America," a press release highlights.
