Tourism exceeded its FITUR 2025 promises by more than 150%.

The Dominican Republic exceeded its FITUR 2025 promises by more than 150%

The country is not going to FITUR just to promote itself, but is taking advantage of the space to make commitments and demonstrate that promises are being fulfilled beyond expectations.

SANTO DOMINGO. – The Dominican Republic will arrive at the International Tourism Fair (FITUR 2026) with an achievement that reinforces its credibility as an investment destination: the country not only fulfilled what it promised in the previous edition, but far exceeded it.

At FITUR 2025, the Ministry of Tourism announced the construction of 7,400 new hotel rooms as part of the agreements reached at the trade fair. By the end of the year, data showed that 18,816 rooms had been completed in 111 hotels , in addition to 58 more projects in the pipeline with 9,364 rooms (according to Lodging Econometrics, December 2025), representing growth of over 150% compared to what was announced at FITUR 2025.

This level of performance represents a record overachievement, which reinforces the country's credibility as an investment destination.

The data comes from Lodging Econometrics, an international bureau specializing in monitoring hotel openings and projects globally, while local sources, such as ASONAHORES and the Ministry of Tourism (Mitur), confirm that the installed capacity already exceeds 90,000 rooms in operation, approaching the threshold of 100,000.

The methodological difference is key: Lodging Econometrics measures the pipeline of openings and ongoing projects, while Dominican entities record the tangible supply already in operation. Together, both perspectives show a country that not only promises but delivers concrete results and projects international confidence.

Tourism Minister David Collado emphasized at FITUR 2025 that "this fair is the ideal platform to show the world that the Dominican Republic is a reliable partner, with stability and a vision for the future.".

The impact in figures
– FITUR 2025 (announced): 7,400 new rooms.
– Reality at the end of 2025: 18,816 rooms in 111 hotels.
– Projects in the pipeline: 58 additional hotels with 9,364 rooms.
– Estimated national total: approximately 100,000 hotel rooms available.

The comparison between what was promised and what has been achieved reinforces the Dominican Republic's image as a reliable investment destination. At FITUR 2026, the country will not only present its National Sports Tourism Strategy, but will also showcase a tangible record: having exceeded the goals announced a year ago by more than 150%.

This result makes the Dominican Republic a case study within the Caribbean: a country that uses FITUR not only as a promotional showcase, but as a space for fulfilled and exceeded commitments.
