SANTO DOMINGO. – Grupo Piñero announced that it will hold the second edition of the “Los + Ecoistas República Dominicana” awards with the aim of recognizing suppliers, collaborators, allies or partners of that company who promote environmental sustainability and positive change in the tourism industry in the country.
Through the “We Are Ecologists” movement, the company seeks to highlight those allies who, through their actions, contribute to the fight against climate change, the preservation of the environment, and the development of responsible tourism.
“With this ‘We Are Ecologists’ movement, we seek to promote a regenerative tourism model that benefits not only the environment, but also the well-being of local communities. This approach allows us to generate a positive and sustainable impact in all areas of our business,” said Andrés Roselló, Chief Sustainability Officer of Grupo Piñero.
Roselló also emphasized that the goal is to foster a collective commitment to sustainability, encouraging businesses and individuals to take concrete actions toward more responsible tourism. “We call on all those who, like us, believe that the future of tourism must be aligned with the preservation of our planet, generating a positive impact on both the environment and the communities that host us,” she added.

For his part, Roberto Salcedo, Minister of Culture, emphasized that “this strategic collaboration with the Piñero Group reinforces our unwavering commitment to promoting and preserving the cultural identity and artisanal traditions of the Dominican Republic. Through this initiative, we not only celebrate the talent and creativity of our local artisans, but we also provide them with an invaluable platform to showcase their potential and contribute to the enrichment of our culture.”.
Open call for artisans
As in the previous edition, Grupo Piñero, in collaboration with the Ministry of Culture and the National Center for Handicrafts (CENADARTE), is launching a competition for emerging artisans to design the statuette that will be awarded to the winners. The contest aims to highlight local talent and promote creativity in sustainable artisan production.
The winner will receive a cash prize of RD$150,000.00, in addition to the opportunity to exhibit and sell their creations in the Gift Shops of the Bahia Principe Hotels & Resorts in the Dominican Republic for one year, which will allow them to showcase their work nationally and internationally.
Artisans interested in participating in the competition to design the statuette for the "Los + Ecoistas República Dominicana" awards must submit their proposals before April 9, 2025. The competition rules and all related information are available on the official website www.somosecoistas.com .
The Los + Ecoistas Awards represent a unique opportunity to merge art with sustainability, highlighting the value of responsible practices in artisanal production. The second edition of the “Los + Ecoistas República Dominicana” awards will take place on May 14, 2025, within the framework of the 24th edition of the Dominican Annual Tourism Exchange (DATE), one of the most important events for the tourism sector in the Caribbean.
