SANTO DOMINGO.-.- The construction sector has shown accelerated growth in recent times, despite showing a percentage reduction of -7.8% in August 2021 compared to the same period in 2020.
According to the former president of the Association of Housing Builders and Developers, Fermín Acosta, it is very easy to demonstrate an exponential increase, the one in 2020 being very important, but when comparing this year with the previous one, those same levels of growth will not be seen because the base that preceded it was very low.

Imports
of construction materials have remained on the rise since the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic, but there is also a basic component that keeps the sector worried, namely freight.
Acosta indicated that when a merchandise is liquidated, the amount paid for freight is a common factor for all these liquidations of what is imported, due to Covid-19 and the accumulation of containers by China and the United States.
“Freight costs for construction materials have increased by more than 300 percent.
