From the funds resulting from the renegotiation contract with AERODOM, more than $700 million will be allocated this year to begin construction of a series of road works.
SANTO DOMINGO – President Luis Abinader said yesterday that the Amber Highway is in the final stages of the bidding process for its construction and that it will become the largest investment road project in the country.
The complex project, which has been announced repeatedly during this administration, will be 32 kilometers long and have four lanes (two in each direction). It will begin at the Santiago Bypass and end in the municipality of Montellano in Puerto Plata. The road connection will allow for a journey of approximately two hours from Santo Domingo and less than 30 minutes from Santiago to Puerto Plata
In delivering his "Accountability" speech to the National Assembly, on the occasion of the 180th anniversary of National Independence, the president explained that with this he is fulfilling the commitment made by his administration.
Abinader also said that as a result of the renegotiation of the contract for Aeropuertos Dominicanos Siglo XXI (AERODOM), the government will allocate more than 700 million dollars this year to begin construction on a series of projects.
Among them he mentioned the express route from Plaza de la Bandera, Isabel Aguiar (Pintura), connecting to November 6, the solution on Avenida República de Colombia with Avenida de los Proceres express to Jacobo Majluta and the road solution between República de Colombia and Avenida Monumental.
Also, the construction of the drawbridge that will replace the floating bridge over the Ozama River, the construction of the bridge parallel to Jacinto Peynado that connects Máximo Gómez with the Mirabal sisters of Santo Domingo Norte, and the level crossing of the Sabana Perdida-La Victoria road with intersection at Charles de Gaulle.
“And paving works in La Caleta, Boca Chica, the airport area, and an extensive paving program in Greater Santo Domingo and other municipalities with an approximate investment of 350 million dollars, for which a committee was formed to monitor the investment,” the president said.
Abinader also cited a group of infrastructure projects that will be completed during 2024, such as the Baní Bypass, the expansion of the Duarte Highway, the Controba-Santiago intersection from 4 to 6 lanes, and the bridge at the Km 9 Solution of the Duarte Highway, entrance to Santo Domingo.
It added the Los Alcarrizos Ring Road, the Juan Pablo II-Caucedo Ecological Avenue section, the San Francisco de Macorís Ring Road, the Samaná entrance, the Moca Ring Road, the Hondo Valle-Juan Santiago-El Cercado road, the Hato Mayor-El Puerto road, and the Hato Mayor-Sabana de la Mar road.
He mentioned the Las Américas Highway Marginal, Phase 3, the Palace of Justice in Santo Domingo East, the Constitutional Court building, the reconstruction of the Bayaguana-El Puerto highway (Monte Plata Province), and the reconstruction of the Hacienda Estrella-El Prado-Monte Plata highway.
The president also mentioned among the works that will be completed this 2024, the Guerra-Bayaguana highway, reconstruction of the Loma de Cabrera – Manuel Bueno-Las Lanas highway, Section I, La Vega market, Higüey market, Lebrón bridge, Pedro Brand, reconstruction of the Guaroa – Comendador highway to the border, Elías Piña and the La Otra Banda bridge.
