One billion was given in bribes

During the tenure of former Attorney General Jean Alain Rodríguez, more than one billion pesos were given in bribes alone, anti-corruption prosecutor Wilson Camacho stated on Monday.

When asked about the charges brought against Rodríguez, who is in pretrial detention, and the others involved in the Medusa case, Camacho said that this figure is "something simply and plainly scandalous and never seen before in the Dominican Republic.".

According to the head of the Specialized Prosecutor's Office for the Prosecution of Administrative Corruption (Pepca), the Medusa case file is the largest to date and "unprecedented," both in the country and in the region.

"This is our largest indictment, it has a volume of 12,274 pages and within those more than 3,500 pieces of evidence, and among the evidence more than 400 witnesses," he stated.
