SAMANÁ - A combination of hydraulic solutions to mitigate the flooding that currently affects the area during times of rainfall is part of the plan to renovate the boardwalk of this town, whose work was started yesterday by the Minister of Tourism, David Collado.
Yesterday, the official broke ground to begin the work on improving the storm drainage system and complementary works, with an investment exceeding 140 million pesos.
The stage that began yesterday includes the comprehensive intervention to improve the runoff of rainwater, from the sanitation of the ravine to its mouth at the sea, solid waste retention structure, dredging and repair of sheet pile wall.
It also includes the comprehensive revitalization of the urban and recreational space along the entire waterfront of the municipality, covering an intervention area of 1.3 kilometers. This includes a bike path, parking bays on the north and south sidewalks, a children's playground, an outdoor gym, and spaces for meditation and walking.

Also, a main entrance plaza with nine sales modules, two bathroom spaces, two government offices and two warehouses.
The project, a long-standing demand of the residents of this tourist destination, will be carried out through the Executive Committee for Infrastructure of Tourist Zones (Ceiztur) of the Ministry of Tourism (Mitur).
Minister Collado highlighted the impact the project will have on the residents of this municipality and on the tourism development of Samaná.
“Today, I am here with you fulfilling my promise and addressing a long-standing demand from all the residents of Santa Barbara, by initiating the work to transform this boardwalk into a true tourist attraction,” the official said.
“President Luis Abinader,” he added, “has given us his full support to take whatever actions are necessary to place this paradisiacal destination in the place it deserves, because Samaná’s time has come.”.
The works are divided into four lots. The first includes the improvement of the stormwater drainage of the Samaná boardwalk, at a cost of 144,143,579.94 pesos, while the second is the western section of the Santa Bárbara boardwalk, for approximately 140,337,615.39 pesos.
The third is the eastern section, for 83,162,458.82 pesos and the fourth is the complementary works: provision and installation of electrical equipment and accessories, at a cost of 38,500,000 pesos, for a total amount of the work of 406,143,654.15 pesos.
