SANTO DOMINGO – Lidia Pérez, sister of the late merengue singer Rubby Pérez and a congresswoman for Puerto Plata, called on authorities to ensure compliance with protocols regarding the quality of the country's infrastructure, while also stating that those responsible for the Jet Set tragedy must be held accountable.
Speaking before the full Chamber of Deputies during Tuesday's session, the legislator said she was confident that the investigation launched by the Public Prosecutor's Office into the collapse that occurred on April 8 at the Jet Set nightclub, where more than 230 people died, would shed light on the matter and that those responsible would be held accountable.
“I trust that the investigation initiated by the Public Prosecutor's Office will shed light on all aspects of this tragedy and that those responsible will be held accountable,” he declared.

She stated that as a member of parliament for the Dominican Republic, she also wanted to call on the authorities to "firmly ensure compliance with protocols regarding the quality of infrastructure.".
The congresswoman for the Modern Revolutionary Party (PRM) said that the Jet Set tragedy has brought bloodshed and pain to many families and "that we cannot allow this to happen again.".
She stated that as a sister her heart is broken, filled with mourning, and that as a public servant she reaffirms her commitment to ensure that no Dominican family has to relive what more than 200 families “have had and are living through.”.
She added that as a believer, even though the pain had weakened her, life goes on. “Let us cling to God, the only one capable of giving us the peace that surpasses all understanding,” she said.
Pérez expressed his gratitude for the solidarity of the Dominican people, who have supported his family during this difficult time. “Thank you for crying with us, for embracing us from afar. Your love has been a balm in this collective grief,” he emphasized.
The case
In the early hours of Tuesday, April 8th, merengue singer Rubby Pérez was entertaining at a party in the legendary Jet Set nightclub when the roof of the establishment collapsed, causing the death of more than 230 people and injuries to about 200, filling the entire Dominican Republic with mourning and pain.
