BARAHONA. -The general director of the National Institute of Technical and Professional Training (INFOTEP), Rafael Santos Badía, said that Barahona will experience an important boost that will impact the quality of life of its citizens, with the installation of the school in the Hotel Guarocuya.
At the Guarocuya training center, students will be trained in cooking, pastry, bar and restaurant, room services, accommodation and hotel receptionist training, massage and spa.
“Wherever INFOTEP is established, companies arrive, jobs are created, businesses are started, and within months the development is noticeable,” said Santos Badía.
The director of INFOTEP made these statements during a meeting in which he announced the resumption of the work to prepare the Hotel Guarocuya, where this modern hotel training and education center will be installed.
He reiterated that the Hotel Guarocuya will be transformed into a training school for technicians in the tourism and hotel industry, from where service will be provided to the four provinces of the Enriquillo Region, made up of Independencia, Bahoruco, Pedernales and Barahona.
“We have come to Barahona to reiterate our commitment to providing training opportunities so that thousands of men and women can be trained and have better opportunities in the labor market,” he said.
He also reported that they have graduated more than seven thousand technicians for the Enriquillo Region tourism circuit project, and that in July he will award diplomas in Barahona to more than seven hundred technicians from the south.
Training opportunities are available at the Hotel Guarocuya.
INFOTEP will strengthen dual training in the region, with special attention to the tourism sector, aiming to improve the productivity of companies through targeted training, technical advice and assistance, and training and advice for entrepreneurs, the official said.
“At this training center, we will have available to the public Occupational Validation and Certification of Labor Competencies, and labor intermediation services, in order to respond to the demand for employees from companies in Barahona and the entire Enriquillo Region.”.
Additionally, training programs were offered in hotel entertainment, tour guiding and ecotourism, pool maintenance, Industry 4.0/IT, hotel building maintenance, and languages: English, French, German, Mandarin, and Russian.

Region, 3,623 training programs have been developed in various areas, of which 1,989 were delivered in Barahona, representing 55%.
These training programs have been delivered by INFOTEP, through its Southern Regional Directorate, with its main office in Azua, where it also operates a technology center, in conjunction with the San Juan de la Maguana technology center and the Barahona Satellite Office.
