SANTO DOMINGO – Real estate development in Punta Cana is booming, but the territorial planning plan urgently needs to be implemented to achieve sustainable growth, says real estate leader Altagracia Poueriet Gil.
The CEO of Hummel Real Estate and Hummel Construction Group explains that the East has experienced exponential growth, but lacks basic infrastructure such as main roads and those that connect with communities, in addition to organizing existing populations and the need for an aqueduct.
“We lack practically everything because Punta Cana grew very quickly and we have advanced in population, but we have fallen behind in services,” he points out.
He added to the list of demands that Punta Cana be elevated to municipality status because, until now, it has been a district and depends on the Higüe city council for permits. Hence, he reiterated the importance of proper planning and becoming an independent territory. “Because we grew without control and without regulations.”.
A second point that the Higüey native urgently advocates for concerns the regulation of real estate brokerage. “In Punta Cana, we have excellent professionals and very reliable companies, but also many people with little or almost no training or experience to call themselves advisors, agents, or brokers,” she asserts.
Poueriet Gil entered the world of real estate in 2008. She is a senior technician in tourism, specializing in services, a graduate of the Pontifical Catholic University Madre y Maestra (PUCMM), and a real estate advisor with 16 years of experience in the sector.

She tells El Inmobiliario that she has resided in Punta Cana since 2013, where she has put her career into practice, advising developers on the purchase of land for the execution of projects, especially residential ones.
Her team is comprised of a group of agents who offer land for developers, pre-construction projects, resorts, and more, exclusively in Punta Cana, the Dominican Republic's premier tourist destination.
The representative of Hummel Real Estate and Hummel Construction Group is a 24/7 professional. “We work full-time in the industry,” she explains, clarifying that officially her office is open Monday through Friday from 8:30 AM to 12:00 PM and from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM, and Saturdays from 8:30 AM to 12:00 PM.
Veteran Altagracia believes three concepts are vital to her success:
- Approach
- Define a market niche
- Commitment to service and industry
And when we asked him if he had had any mentors in his professional career, he replied: "Emil Montás, Marbel Lugo, Jürgen Klaric, Luis Eduardo Barón and currently the Montiel Brothers.".
