Punta Cana continues to position itself among the most sought-after destinations in the world. In the fourth quarter of 2023, this destination ranked alongside Orlando and Miami among the most popular sunny spots.
Warm-weather destinations, such as the Dominican Republic, remain among the top choices for North Americans, according to Jennifer André, Vice President of Business Development at Expedia Group Media Solutions, in an article published on February 27.
Cancun and Fort Lauderdale also appear among the most sought-after destinations in North America, a region that contributes more than 60% of non-resident foreign visitors to the country.
“The number of US travelers searching for tropical destinations increased during the fourth quarter, with triple-digit quarter-over-quarter increases in searches from the US to St. Lucia, Aruba, and Curaçao,” André explains.
The data indicates that the popularity of warm destinations will remain strong because 46% of those who recently visited Expedia said they were planning a beach or water vacation this year, explains André.
Punta Cana is the Dominican Republic's main tourist destination. In 2023, it attracted 67.5% of non-resident foreign visitors. It is a sun and beach destination characterized by its all-inclusive resorts.
