SANTO DOMINGO. – Starting tonight, Monday the 19th, and continuing until Saturday the 24th of this month of June, the Ministry of Public Works and Communications (MOPC) will close various overpasses and bridges located in Greater Santo Domingo and in Piedra Blanca de Bonao to vehicular traffic, due to maintenance and cleaning work being carried out on these structures.
The work consists of collecting solid waste and debris, weed control, and general cleaning of the surrounding area and drainage system, both in the upper and lower sections. The closures will be in effect from 10:00 PM to 5:00 AM the following day.
The overpass on Avenida 27 de Febrero will be closed from Monday through Friday for repairs and painting of its railings. The closure will only affect the eastbound lanes, except for Monday, when it will be completely closed in both directions.
Also on Monday, lighting repairs will be carried out in the Ortega y Gasset-UASD tunnel, which will not require closure. The Juan Bosch and Juan Pablo Duarte bridges will be partially closed Monday night.
On Tuesday, there will be a total closure to traffic at the overpasses of 27 de Febrero Avenue with Tiradentes, John F. Kennedy Avenue with Ortega y Gasset, and Kennedy Avenue with Máximo Gómez, as well as in the tunnels of 27 de Febrero Avenue with Abraham Lincoln and Winston Churchill (which will also include electrical work) and the one on Las Américas Avenue.
On Wednesday night, the underpasses at 27 de Febrero and Doctor Defilló, 27 de Febrero and Núñez de Cáceres, and Privada will be completely closed, as will the overpasses at Kennedy and Lope de Vega and Tiradentes avenues (which will also undergo electrical work), and the overpass at Kennedy and Abraham Lincoln. The Francisco J. Peynado and Gregorio Luperón bridges will also be closed.
On Thursday, the following will be completely closed: the Floating Bridge; the overpasses at 27 de Febrero with Ortega y Gasset and the Piedra Blanca de Bonao overpass on the Duarte Highway; as well as the underpasses at 25 de Febrero with Avenida España; 25 de Febrero with Avenida al Faro a Colón; 25 de Febrero with San Vicente de Paul; the highway to San Isidro with 25 de Febrero; Marginal Las Américas Oeste with 25 de Febrero; the highway to San Isidro with Las Américas (dry bridge); and Las Américas with Marginal Las Américas.
On Friday, the closures will be in effect on the overpasses of the Las Américas highway with José Francisco Peña Gómez street, the dry bridge of the Jubey-Boca Chica road; Las Américas with Puerto Caucedo; Las Américas with 7/6 street of La Caleta; Las Américas highway with Route 66 (East-South direction); Las Américas with Route 66 (South-West direction).
Also, the Las Américas overpasses with Avenida Hípica; the new Las Américas highway overpass, the Santo Domingo-Samaná highway overpasses; San Vicente de Paul with Las Américas and with Avenida Venezuela (in front of the entrance to Los Tres Brazos); Avenida Reyes Católicos with Calle Respaldo 42, with Avenida del Zoológico and with Avenida Ramón Cáceres, and the dry bridge at Plaza de la Bandera.
