The Minister of Public Works and Communications, MOPC, Deligne Ascención, toured several sectors of La Romana yesterday, where he supervised the street paving work being carried out in the municipality of Guaymate, along with the conditioning of sidewalks and curbs.
Brigades and heavy equipment from the MOPC's Road Paving Directorate are participating in the placement of asphalt pavement in different streets and sectors of the Los Cocos sector of the aforementioned municipality, a press release highlights.
The official said that both in that sector and in the municipality of Villa Hermosa, asphalt work, pothole repair, sidewalk and curb repairs are being carried out, which for years had been abandoned in these localities, which shows the deterioration of their streets.
“We are here in the Los Cocos sector, a densely populated area of the municipality of Guaymate, where we have come to deliver a positive response from the Dominican government through the Ministry of Public Works with the paving of its streets. All the streets in this sector will be, or are currently being, paved to improve the lives of our people, regardless of their location, and to bring well-being to our people throughout the country,” said Deligne Ascención.
He said that President Luis Abinader, who has direct communication with the people, received a request from the neighborhood associations here through the council members, and because of that direct conversation with the president, we have come to respond to the needs that these communities have been demanding for years,” he added.
He explained that the MOPC distributes its efforts and actions to benefit the places that need it most.
Governor Ivelisse Méndez, Representative Jacqueline Fernández, and José Dolores Núñez, president of the Modern Revolutionary Party in La Romana, expressed similar sentiments, highlighting President Abinader's constant support for the MOPC's work in that and other eastern provinces.
Méndez highlighted the 20 kilometers of sidewalks and curbs that have been built through a program that will impact all the streets and alleys of Guaymate.
“We asked the people of Guaymate to be patient at the time because when it rained, they would get desperate because of the bad condition of the streets, and at that time I told them to have a little patience because the helping hand of the Luis Abinader government would be in Guaymate, and here we are giving answers to the people,” said the president of the PRM in La Romana.
The minister also reported that, in the municipality of Villa Hermosa, the Ministry is working on the construction of 20 kilometers of streets with their respective sidewalks and curbs.
It was also announced that the Pica Piedra sector will be paved, the km 6 and Juan Pablo Duarte 3 sectors will be re-graveled, and the km 6 and Juan Pablo Duarte sectors will be constructed with sidewalks and curbs. Work will also be done on paving the main street of Villa Progreso and the sidewalks and curbs in the Comajón sector.
He added that paving streets in neighborhoods is an essential investment to improve residents' quality of life and promote local development. Paved streets will reduce dust and mud, facilitating vehicular and pedestrian traffic. Furthermore, it will improve road safety by reducing accidents caused by poor road conditions.
