SANTO DOMINGO. – The weight of iron pieces weighing between 2,000 and 2,500 kilograms may have been the cause of the sinkhole that appeared Tuesday morning at the Don Diego Terminal, declared Elido Alcántara, director of the Transportation Team of the Ministry of Public Works and Communications (MOPC).
Alcántara explained that so far only material losses have been recorded.
He noted that MOPC brigades, in collaboration with the COE, are inspecting the affected area to proceed with removing the debris.
The official stated that the official report outlining the causes and consequences of the incident will be released after a consensus is reached between government authorities and port officials.

The fact
The Dominican Port Authority (APORDOM) reported that at approximately 9:45 a.m. this Tuesday, at the Don Diego Terminal of the Port of Santo Domingo, a state-owned infrastructure concessioned and operated by San Souci Ports, dock number six suffered a partial fracture, with no casualties or injuries reported.
They explained that technical teams from APORDOM and San Souci Ports, together with the Dominican Republic Navy, are carrying out the relevant surveys to assess the material damage that the incident may have caused.
They indicated that operations at the two docks of the San Souci Terminal and the five docks of the Santo Domingo Terminal remain active, without incident and out of risk.
