SANTO DOMINGO. - The Ministry of Public Works and Communications (MOPC) called on drivers traveling on the country's various highways to take the necessary precautions during the Christmas holidays in areas where road infrastructure construction and repair work is being carried out, in order to avoid unfortunate accidents.
The official entity specifically referred to the care that must be taken when moving vehicles in places where large-scale work is being carried out, such as on the Duarte highway and the 27 de Febrero avenue with Isabel Aguiar.
Regarding the Duarte highway, he highlighted the key points to consider, such as the Santo Cerro crossing, the El Pino-7´s bridge section, the Acero Estrella crossing, the Río Verde bridge (La Penda), Loma Miranda in the Santiago-Santo Domingo direction, the Arroyo Vuelta-Piedra Blanca section, and the Kilometer 30 toll plaza.
“These are the critical points where work is being done on the Duarte highway, and where trenches are being dug, lanes are closed, and there are points where there is greater traffic congestion,” the official entity said in a press release.
He reported that he has put up preventative signs, including in some places indicating where there is a narrow road.
Regarding the work taking place on Avenida 27 de Febrero with Isabel Aguiar, Public Works reported that in relation to the North-South connections, the project was working on a regular schedule until December 20, but that there will be a schedule for these for December 24 and the Christmas and New Year's festivities.
He added that during that period “the construction of the bus bay located at the intersection of Prolongación 27 de Febrero Avenue and Isabel Aguiar Avenue will be completed, as well as the work on the underpass related to underground drainage and concrete leveling of the west ramp, and the excavation of the east ramp.”.
Also, work will be completed on the dissipation lagoon and the landscaping of the areas around ramps 03 and 04. Additionally, work will begin on the Plaza de la Bandera, including the perimeter fence and the installation of the pilings.
"Starting Monday, December 23, project activities will continue to be concentrated within the trench, focusing on the bottom slab and side walls of the west ramp, as well as drainage and leveling of the east ramp. On Tuesday, January 7, 2025, the project will return to its regular activities and schedule," the press release states.
