SANTO DOMINGO. – The Public Prosecutor's Office announced this Tuesday the launch of Operation Lobo against a criminal organization that relied on the distribution of bribes to secure and maintain private security contracts in public institutions.
The operation, carried out by the Specialized Prosecutor's Office for the Prosecution of Administrative Corruption (Pepca) with the support of the General Directorate of Prosecution of the Public Ministry, included 15 raids in the National District and Santiago.
A total of 26 prosecutors from the Public Ministry's investigative bodies worked with the support of 189 agents of the National Police to confront the network that affected the National Institute of Comprehensive Care for Early Childhood (Inaipi), the National Health Insurance (Senasa), the Northern Electricity Distribution Company (EdeNorte), the Eastern Electricity Distribution Company (EdeEste) and the Southern Electricity Distribution Company (EdeSur).
The General Directorate of Prosecution and the Pepca announced that the investigation, which led to the arrest of 14 people, began with a complaint sent to the Public Ministry by the management of the General Directorate of Ethics and Governmental Integrity headed by Dr. Milagros Ortiz Bosch.
They explained that the lines of investigation continue with the rigor and holistic vision promoted for these cases by the management of Attorney General Yeni Berenice Reynoso, and that they seek to confront crime and delinquency in all its aspects.
In the next few hours, the Public Prosecutor's Office will be filing its request for coercive measures against the members of this criminal network.
