SANTO DOMINGO. – From a housewife to representatives of the various powers that influence policies and decision-making in the country, a total of 115 people stood before a group of congressmen yesterday to give their opinions on the debated Fiscal Modernization bill, in a marathon session that lasted until after 9:00 pm.
After listening to the various positions of all the sectors present, the Finance Committee of the Chamber of Deputies promised to take the proposed changes and the demands presented to the office of President Luis Abinader.
Hoteliers, builders, vehicle manufacturers, healthcare professionals, teachers, lawyers, politicians, business owners, housewives, bankers—all stood before the podium in the National Assembly Hall of the National Congress of the Dominican Republic to make their position clear regarding the tax reform.
The observations were noted by the commission that led the consultation, chaired by Deputy Francisco Paulino, who announced the participants.
Alfredo Pacheco, president of the Chamber of Deputies, said he will request a meeting with Abinader and with the Minister of Finance, Jochi Vicente, to present them with all the counterproposals that the Lower House received in the public hearings and during the meetings of the commission that is analyzing the bill .
According to Pacheco, the purpose of these meetings is "to develop a proposal that will allow this project to be presented to the National Congress in a much more relaxed environment.".
