President Luis Abinader inaugurated the Hotel School of the Autonomous University of Santo Domingo (UASD) this Friday, along with its Auditorium and a smart classroom, a project that unites education and productive development to promote new opportunities in the province of El Seibo.
The infrastructure is designed for the practical training of students in key areas such as hospitality and tourism, equipped with modern smart classrooms and an auditorium intended for academic, cultural and training activities, which will allow raising the quality of education, strengthening human talent and boosting the local economy.
During the event, President Abinader urged young people to take advantage of the new facilities and the opportunity they represent, highlighting the high demand for jobs generated by the rapid growth of the hotel sector. He pointed out that this industry is not limited to food and beverages, but also requires personnel in technical, engineering, artistic, and healthcare fields, and therefore encouraged students to focus with dedication and passion on their chosen area of study to find employment within this growing industry.
He also indicated that the existing infrastructure and upcoming investments for Miches and the region are unprecedented, which will translate into more jobs and better opportunities. He explained that the government will continue to facilitate improved road connectivity, especially in the mountainous area of the eastern mountain range, and emphasized that this project, along with the hotel school and the auditorium, directly impacts educational, training, and economic development by providing young people with spaces to learn, train, and prepare for the opportunities available in the area.
Meanwhile, the Minister of Housing and Construction, Víctor "Ito" Bisonó, emphasized that the handover of the auditorium at the UASD (Autonomous University of Santo Domingo) El Seibo campus marks a new stage in his leadership of the ministry, as it is a project directly linked to education, knowledge, and the future. He indicated that the space is now formally in the hands of the university to fulfill its purpose of serving the education, intellectual development, and growth of this community, for the benefit of students, faculty, and university authorities.
He also reported that the total renovation of the auditorium covered 5,416 square meters and included green areas, internal pathways, sidewalks, parking, exterior lighting, and proper access, with an investment by the Dominican government exceeding RD$49 million, under the leadership of President Luis Abinader. He acknowledged the work of former Minister Carlos Bonilla and his team, during whose tenure the project was conceived, executed, and completed, and affirmed that this space strengthens the social and educational role of the UASD and contributes to the development of El Seibo province.

Similarly, the Rector of UASD, Professor Editrudis Beltrán Crisóstomo, indicated that this project, developed in coordination with CORPHOTEL through a 20-year lease, allows the UASD to have a Hotel-School for the first time in its history. He emphasized that an infrastructure that was previously in ruins has now been transformed into a space dedicated to education, with 24 rooms , two suites, a smart classroom with cutting-edge technology, and a modern auditorium. He also highlighted that when he took office as Rector in 2022, the UASD only had a presence in 18 locations, while today the oldest university in the Americas is present throughout the entire country.
Furthermore, the governor of El Seibo province, Magaly Tabar, stated that this auditorium was designed to serve knowledge, education, and the development of the people, and represents a firm commitment to culture. "Thank you, Mr. President, for supporting higher education and for making it possible for the university to have dignified spaces for learning, dialogue, and growth.".
