"The aqueduct will benefit eight thousand homes in the tourist area.".
PEDERNALES – President Luis Abinader inaugurated the second phase of the Port Cabo Rojo facilities this Wednesday, a port with the capacity to receive two oasis-type ships and up to 15,000 visitors. He also inaugurated an aqueduct that will benefit 8,000 hotel rooms in the tourist area.
During this inauguration at the Cabo Rojo Port, its third cruise ship arrived in Pedernales, with more than 3,000 cruise passengers, to continue the development of the Southern region.
The president welcomed the Adventure of the Seas from the Royal Caribbean Cruise line, a ship that is arriving for the first time in the Dominican Republic and has a capacity for 3,114 cruise passengers and 1,185 crew members.
The president cut the ribbon on the second phase of Port Cabo Rojo, accompanied by the Minister of the Presidency, José Ignacio Paliza; the Minister of Tourism, David Collado; the Minister of Public Administration and Executive Director of the Pro-Pedernales Trust, Sigmund Freund; the Executive Director of the Dominican Port Authority, Jean Luis Rodríguez; and the CEO of ITM Group, Mauricio Hamui.
When approached by the media present at the arrival of the new cruise ship, the governor stated that what is happening in Pedernales is a true transformation.

“This is a true transformation. It is a true transformation that is happening here in Pedernales, and this transformation, ladies and gentlemen, is to create jobs,” the president emphasized.
President Abinader indicated that opening one of these hotels will create enough jobs for the entire region and maintained that of all the projects his government is undertaking in the south, this one will be the engine of development for the region.
He added that the port provides 400 direct jobs, and for every direct job, it's estimated that there are two to three indirect jobs throughout the area. "This is a significant economic impact, and it will change the lives of hundreds of thousands of Dominicans, especially in the southern region.".
The works being carried out in Cabo Rojo, such as hotels, airport, roads and highways, aqueduct, electrical substation, and treatment plant, are in an advanced stage of execution and are a demonstration of the Government's coherence and commitment to leave as a legacy to the entire region a world-class tourist destination.
Inaugurates Cabo Rojo Aqueduct
Subsequently, the Dominican head of state and the executive director of the National Institute of Drinking Water and Sewerage (Inapa), Wellington Arnaud, inaugurated the Cabo Rojo aqueduct, whose approximate investment is RD 1,200 million and will benefit eight thousand rooms for the tourist area, complying with all quality standards.
During the event, the president stressed that the project will be vital for the infrastructure that will support the ProPedernales Trust, which is and will be the driving force of the entire south and the Enriquillo region (Barahona, Bahoruco, Independencia and Pedernales).
He stated that it is a combination of projects that not only promote hotels, but also the port of Cabo Rojo, so that the development will, for the first time, change the name of the deep south into a "fertile south".
He detailed the projects underway in Barahona, such as the first Maternal and Child Health Center in the South. Also, in support of the Dominican League Against Cancer, the first Oncology Center is being built in Barahona.
He also emphasized that with the construction of these projects, residents of the south will no longer have to travel to the province of Santo Domingo. “We are making this region a region with the essentials, the proper facilities, the dignified infrastructure, and one that combines social and health infrastructure with economic development,” Abinader noted.
