SANTIAGO. - President Luis Abinader inaugurated the Juan Veras-Las Yayitas highway yesterday, Friday, a six-kilometer stretch of road that has been demanded for years by residents and that will boost development and mountain tourism and benefit various families in this livestock and agricultural area.
The Minister of Public Works and Communications, Deligne Ascención Burgos, said that with the opening of the road, not only are the works on La Turística completed, but new works already finished are added, such as the Guazumal-La Cumbre road and another that connects with this one, the Juan Veras-Palo Alto road, inaugurated in previous months.
In that regard, he explained that other works are being developed around and in the vicinity of La Turística, extending to Yásica.
"Around the La Turística highway, the investment made by the government, through the Ministry of Public Works and Communications, exceeds RD$4 billion," highlighted Ascención Burgos.
He also explained that the project is an inclusive development that involves all communities, creating a virtuous circle in which those who live in large cities, such as the communication between Santiago and Puerto Plata, can benefit, as well as those who live in smaller communities.
He also announced that, on the instructions of President Abinader, the remaining 2 kilometers to reach Pedro García and a baseball field (if they acquire the land) will be included in the contract to be built by the government.
President Abinader was accompanied by Governor Rosa Santos; the mayor of Santiago, Ulises Rodríguez; Senator Eduardo Estrella; Senator-elect Daniel Rivera; the administrator of Edenorte, Andrés Cueto; the general director of the Santiago Water and Sewerage Corporation (Coraasan), engineer Andrés Burgos; and businessman Manuel Estrella.
