SANTO DOMINGO - President Luis Abinader delivered 264 apartments to the same number of families this Saturday as part of the Mi Vivienda Ciudad Modelo project in Santo Domingo Norte, which will benefit more than 6,000 people in total.
This is the fourth inauguration of new apartments that the Ministry of Housing, Habitat and Buildings (Mivhed) has carried out in the project and to date it has delivered 1,524 of the 1,760 units that Mi Vivienda Ciudad Modelo includes, equivalent to 86% of the total projected in the housing complex.
In a ceremony prior to the handover of the new housing units, the president, accompanied by the first lady Raquel Arbaje and the minister of MIVHED, Carlos Bonilla, visited one of the families benefiting from these apartments, with whom he spoke and shared a lunch.
The project has an investment exceeding RD$4,565 million, which boosts the economy from the construction sector, creating almost 4,000 direct and indirect jobs.
During the ceremony, Minister Bonilla stated that these apartments, added to those delivered nationwide, which number around 6,000, represent a historic figure that no other government had delivered in such a short time.
“I want you to know that President Abinader will not rest until he fulfills his promise to deliver 7,544 units under this project, which was our pledge, because for us, keeping our word is almost an obsession. And all these achievements are possible thanks to the will of a president who has invested a historic amount of resources to make these projects a reality,” Bonilla stated.
Speaking on behalf of the beneficiary families was Keilyn Rojas Santiago, a young girl who expressed her gratitude to the president for allowing her family to have their own roof, which she said she loved because it even had parks and recreation areas for children.
Meanwhile, Senator Antonio Taveras of Santo Domingo province emphasized that President Abinader's administration has fully understood the importance of a family having their own roof as a fundamental right, and affirmed that it has brought about a revolution in the area of housing.
They symbolically received the keys to their apartments along with their families: Ramona Tavera, Matilde Gómez, Marilanda Santana, Ángela María Piñeiro and Margarita Arias.
The project
Mi Vivienda Ciudad Modelo, encompassing over 123,000 square meters of construction and nearly 16,000 square meters of green areas, features 1,496 three-bedroom apartments and 264 two-bedroom apartments. It includes playgrounds, recreational areas, an institutional space, a basketball court, and parking for cars and motorcycles.
The government began delivering the first 500 apartments in the Mi Vivienda Ciudad Modelo program in November 2022. This was followed by 260 new homes in February of this year; another 500 units were delivered in July, and 264 more were delivered this past Saturday, bringing the total to 1,524 in less than a year.
In addition to Mi Vivienda Ciudad Modelo, Mivhed is developing the Mi Vivienda Hato Nuevo and Mi Vivienda San Luis projects in Santo Domingo, while in Santiago, Mi Vivienda Los Salados and Mi Vivienda Hato del Yaque are being promoted.
