SANTO DOMINGO. – President Luis Abinader created, through Decree 675-24, the Hoyo del Pino National Park, under category II of the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), located in the provinces of Monseñor Nouel and La Vega .
With this decree, the ruler seeks to protect the ecosystem and the sources of water that guarantee the water supply to a large part of the Dominican population, as well as the biological and landscape diversity of the Hoyo del Pino area.
The new park has an approximate area of 95.74 km2 Transverse Mercator Unit (UTM) coordinate system
The decree establishes that the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources must execute this decree, in order to carry out the management and administration of the Hoyo del Pino National Park, and is also empowered to carry out, on behalf of the State, with prior authorization from the Executive Branch , the direct purchase or exchange of land to private individuals to fulfill the purposes of this decree.
In addition to coordinating the preparation of the Hoyo del Pino National Park Management Plan, with the participation of all social sectors and institutions that affect the communities near and adjacent to this protected area , following the guidelines established in the existing regulations for such purposes.
