President Luis Abinader announced the construction of 9,000 hotel rooms by 2022 and an investment of RD$60 billion in the industrial sector, excluding free trade zones.
The head of state emphasized that the investments in tourism, industry, commerce and free zones, which will begin in 2022, will be an "absolutely unprecedented event in the history of the Dominican Republic.".
He stated that the development of these sectors is of utmost importance for job creation, so there are reasons to be optimistic and view the future positively.
“Every time a hotel opens, we have 1.2 direct jobs and at least three indirect jobs. In free trade zones and industries, between 200 and 500 new jobs are created, and there is no better public policy than job creation,” the president added.
He also emphasized that the country's economic growth will close this year in double digits, assuring that the government has the responsibility to carry out a sound public spending policy, investing in social sectors to improve people's quality of life, and that resources are used with transparency and honesty.
The expansion
The president's remarks were made at the groundbreaking ceremony for the expansion of the Casa de Campo Resort & Villas hotel.
The project will have a private investment of US$90 million and is expected to create 500 direct jobs between construction and operations.

“I believe this is a very important and special event because it is the first time they are expanding their hotel offerings, and for us, this demonstrates, firstly, this group's confidence in the Dominican Republic, but it also shows the projections and optimism reflected in hotel investment and the tourism sector,” Abinader said.
Tourism Minister David Collado said, “We have restored dignity to the tourism sector. Without a doubt, we are facing an unprecedented historic recovery in the Dominican Republic.”.
The president of Casa de Campo Resort & Villas, Andrés Pichardo, added that in these almost 50 years, Casa de Campo has been one of the pioneers of luxury tourism and real estate in the country.
“We are very proud to continue developing the vision of our shareholders at Corporación Central Romana to continue adding numerous first-class services and facilities that will further highlight tourism in the region and the country,” he said.
