SANTO DOMINGO - The investigative commission into the collapse that occurred in the early hours of April 8 at the Jet Set nightclub will deliver the results of its investigations, following the roof collapse that has so far claimed the lives of 234 people.
During the weekly press conference on Monday, May 26, President Luis Abinader and Leonardo Reyes, director of the National Office of Seismic Evaluation and Vulnerability of Infrastructure and Buildings (Onesvie), offered details about the case, highlighting that the judicial body will also be in charge of revealing the results of the forensic analysis.
They stated that the technical commission appointed to investigate the roof collapse at the Jet Set preliminary report on the causes of the collapse within two weeks
This technical document, which is still being prepared, will be sent directly to the Attorney General's Office, the entity responsible for the criminal investigation of the case and the only one authorized to offer official details about the findings , they explained.
"From day one, the commission has been working without the need for a decree," President Abinader stated, while reaffirming that the investigation is being conducted with technical rigor and inter-institutional collaboration .
Names of the commission
At the president's request, Reyes Madera revealed the names of the commission: forensic engineer Fierro , from the University of California at Berkeley, United States; Máximo Corominas , structural pathologist from the Eduardo Torroja Institute of Construction Sciences in Spain ; engineer Marcos Paniagua Yost , with a master's degree from the Catholic University of Chile ; and engineer Remy Luciano , with a master's degree in earthquake-resistant engineering from the Pontifical Catholic University Madre y Maestra (PUCMM).
Reyes Madera said they had estimated a three-month timeframe to complete the investigation. "We understand that we have a meeting scheduled in about two weeks with the experts appointed by the Attorney General's Office, and the first preliminary report of the study being conducted at the Jet Set will be released then. However, the Attorney General's Office will answer that final question (about when the final report will be available)."
